My boyfriend of nearly 4 years, x boyfriend, lover, romantic friend, best friend...whatever the shit you call him. Joshua, my lover of sorts, back in NY gave me a call this morning, and sent an email that reminded me so much of how crazy the human mind is. Sometimes we talk and he is so down about his present situation, whether he misses the sweet lovin from the one and only KC, or his job is miserable, or he can't have a normal conversation with anyone in his family, or he has no money, or whatever the shit is going on in his life...sometimes he calls me, and we talk about how difficult life is. Sometimes I call him hopeless and screaming, unimaginably angry at my insane family member, helpless, and lost. On the other hand, sometimes when we talk, we're both on top of the world, we have a million bucks in the bank, we just bought a pair of fancy sunglasses, a german publishing house is rubbing butter in our ass, a company in Hong Kong is calling, pedicures, massages, and sweet loving in the sunshine. Isn't life great like that. One moment, we're feeding on misery, and the next, we're floating around, barely touching the ground because we've overcome the weight of gravity with the joy that gushes through our veins. We feel blessed, we're giddy. We smile at strangers. We think we're beautiful. Aren't those moments ever too fleeting?
So my blog. I'm getting into it now. Look at me go. Here are some shots of what my life has looked a little bit like. I wish I could share my emotions for you , visually. I need to get back into making things. When I came to China, I left my art in NY. I figured I'd come back to it, but now it seems like I'm zeroing in on really making my life in Shanghai work. I want to take care of all the things and people that matter so much to me.

Today, May 4. This is Caroline on the cellphone just before I arrived for a birthday pedicure. She is 26 today. May girls are the best kind.

Me at the cafe I am sitting in. The gentleman next to me also has an IBM, and he took the picture for me.

The cafe, Boona, and the gentleman who gave me a hand. Simone ( german) calls this cafe Boner.

Me! Its my vacation and I've been exceptionally relaxed. My pants are new, and I just love em.

Ben Shi!!!! Holy Moly! I lived with him in NY on Delancey when Yvonne was in Italy for 6 months. Now he lives in Shanghai too!! We're eating in this great development that has cute shops and cafes in a renovated neighborhood on Tai kang Lu ( sp?).

Josh and Caroline with one of the guys working on their new office space in the same developement that Ben and I had lunch in.

Simone, getting her very first manicure, ever. This was the night before we went to the airport together and hugged and cried together for the last time in Shanghai.
