This is my Head Start Sucess Story:
As a prior Upward Bound student I was already familiar with government agencies that helped citizens with low resources realize their dreams! Thus, after a divorce, and while attending graduate school as a single parent, I enrolled my daughter in Head Start.
Back then my child was a beautiful, two-pig-tailed dynamo (she is still full of energy); who loved her friends at Head Start. Head Start was a Godsend for me as i struggled to continue my education. My child has been to college and is now married and on her own, but my experience with Head Start doesn't end there!
While my daughter was in college and I was attending the doctorate program from which I eventually earned my PhD; I had guadianship of my grandsons. BOTH of them went to Head Start...one in College Station, TX while I was attending school; and one attended Head Start in Nebraska while I was completing my Internship! They both have done well academically. In fact, the younger one, now eight, has recently been nominated for the gifted and talented Vanguard program at his school (where he is currently in the dual language program).
To top all that; I am now the Mental Wellness Coordinator for a Head Start Program in Texas. How do you like that for generational Head Start success! Needless to say, I fully believe in Head Start!
