Get Me On the Court and I'm Trouble

by Parker Wright

I am a decidedly unemotional, analytical person, but Barack's acceptance speech made my arm hair stand up and my ears ring.

Intelligent, gracious, humble, determined, and realistic. These qualities are back.

Politics is not my thing, but even I have been all-in for this election for a long time. Living in New York helps, because the way Barack galvanizes people is so evident here - his nomination acceptance speech was played everywhere in the city, in cabs, bars, and homes. His unifying power is clearly something extraordinary, and is just what we need.

What's amazing, is he's just a normal dude! The guy plays basketball all the time. Apparently, he's actually good...and that's exactly what he was doing when the votes came it - shootin hoops.

And did you see his Monday Night Football interview? They asked what he would most like to change about sports, and he responded emphatically: "College Football Playoffs! Get the best 8 teams, and decide the national champion in a playoff." Are you kidding me, that is brilliance, and matches the opinion of die-hard sports fans.

I don't believe the sun rises and sets with him, and there's no chance he accomplishes everything he says. It's just not possible. But what is possible, and is already happening, is that he unites the country, and hopefully the world, in a way we have never seen.

True practical genius in a leadership role (in my opinion) is realizing what you don't know, and using that as a strength. As Woodrow Wilson said, "I not only use all the brains I have, but all I can borrow." and I think, and I hope, that this sums up Obama's approach.

We don't have to move to Canada, and that is sweet, cause it's freakin cold up there. America, F Yeah!

"This is excellent. I love the "Are you kidding me, that is brilliance, and matches the opinion of die-hard sports fans." HA! And good Woodrow Wilson quote. I think you're right about bringing people together. I'm not sure if this election qualifies as a landslide, but I think it's all about hope restored. I know that "hope" was a keyword for them, but shoot -- they were right on."

"A dear African-American friend of mine, Almeta Keys, wrote on Commontales, "God Made a Black Man President." I think it's OK to say "God made a black man, and we made him president." I think the Lord would be proud we finally got his message. Almeta, by the way, is an ordained minister. And you are right, Parker, Canada is waaay too cold for us Southerners. Almeta would agree."
