Tom and I didn't do our taxes on time this year. We filed for an extension, which gave us until August 15th to send them in.
Naturally, we waited until most of the post offices closed to do so. There's one post office in Manhattan that's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's across the street from Madison Square Garden and it's enormous.
Apparently, all packages sent to NYC go through this one post office. I think that's pretty amazing.
We got there at 11 pm.
The line was long (the line on the right curves around and becomes the line on the left):

And at 12:00 am, a police officer got in the back of the line -- a human deadline, if you will.
I think it's a trip; seeing a scene that few people do -- the very last minute to file your taxes in New York:
