Brushing Holly

by Michael Kane

This past week (while home in Alexandria) I was on a mission to get Holly totally cleaned up.  The problem is, she hates being brushed.  She'll only let you do it for so long before leaving you, brush in hand, surrounded by fluff.

Here she is the day after my arrival:

Still very messy.

I brushed her a few times a day, stopping when she'd get really annoyed.  After a couple days, I decided to give her a bath.  She's got so much fur she wasn't totally dry the next morning.

I took her down to the river, but wouldn't let her splash around in the water . .

All of this leads up to my favorite photo, the photo I took the night before I left.  This is all of the fur I brushed out during the week:

The best part is, she seemed so much happier and more playful by the end of the week.  I figure she was wearing an extra fur coat around -- in the summer -- all day long.  It must have been a nuisance.
