A Night of Cocktails, Music, and Dancing

by Tom Kane

Ever since my brother Michael and I came to Poly and the BEST incubator, we have been received with open arms. But even though we're both charming as charming can be, in some cases you need family connections to open doors.

In fact, we probably made it past the door into the Poly Alumni Ball on the strength of our great-uncle and illustrious Poly Alumnus, Jasper Hugh Kane.

Once we made it in, though, there was no end to warm handshakes and good conversation, delicious food and top-shelf drinks, and — of course — dancing.

Michael, being the buffet-in-reverse type, sampled first the delicious cake and fruit parfait. He approached me with a serious look. "This is my first. I'm going back until they run out, so you better hurry if you want one."

The gymnasium was transformed for an elegant night out with many of Poly's esteemed alumni celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Poly's Annual Giving Program.

After introductory remarks from Polytechnic University's Vice President for Development and University Relations Dawn Duncan and President Jerry Hultin, the good times began to roll thanks to one intrepid couple. Their first request was the samba, which they performed with precision, gaining applause and breaking the ice for everyone else. Here they are dancing with fellow brave souls Jana Richman and her husband. (If you look closely, you can catch Michael eating by the dance floor.)

It wasn't too long before the joint was jumpin'.

Michael the gourmand made time to talk shop with the chef.

The cranberry-duck risotto also received high marks, as Michael's wonderstruck face attests.
