We are experiencing a minor cold spell here in Alaska! 20 below means that you have to go for walks with your dog wearing at least three layers! Expedition weight long underwear, polar fleece pants, wind resistant coveralls! Boots must be Uggs. Warm mittens, and three layers on top. Face mask or scarf, Major mittens. The good news is the beautiful moon, the northern lights, the rime on the trees which outlines each branch with frost! My grandchildren's ponies have a blanket of snow on their backs, which offers insulation. The ponies dont seem to mind it, and prefer their shed in lieu of the substantial log barn which my husband built for them in the 80's.
We are fortunate to be able to go to Hawaii for the next two weeks, to relax in the sun, and swim, snorkel and dive in the ocean. Then we will return to Alaska to enjoy the increasing daylight and look forward to weather warm enough to cross country ski!
