This is a letter written by Blanca, a woman who works for the municipal garbage collection. These workers are also tasked with collecting stray animals. This is the story of one special Spanish greyhound, Inca, who Blanca rescued from a garbage dump in the town of Cordoba in southern Spain. Most collected stray animals are put down, but thanks to people like Blanca who go the extra mile to contact SOS Galgos, Inca was given the chance at a wonderful loving home, which she found in Barcelona with Laia and Sebastian.
Hello Laia
Thank you very much for the photos of Inca. It moves me very much to see how happy she is.

Inca gets a big hug from her owner Laia
When
I first saw Inca, she was in the garbage dump parking lot. As soon as I called to her she would run away scared.
I sometimes fed her although the truth is, I believe that she lived off the garbage. She was always on her own, and on the week-ends she would lie on a compost heap. It saddened me to see her like this but it seemed impossible to rescue her as I told you before. She went missing for some time and I thought that she may have been collected as garbage.
She reappeared one day with a broken leg. I was devastated and she carried on fleeing from me. By the look of things she seemed to have been hit by a garbage truck. To my surprise, one day I was unloading the truck she came to me when I whistled and spoke softly to her.

Inca also loves Sebastian
She suddenly looked at me and ran towards me. She stayed closely by me while I stroked her with her head down and then she ran off only to run quickly back to me. That made me very hopeful. So on Sunday evening when she was between
truckloads, we began to play again and I gradually coaxed her into my
car.
I
put a blanket on the backseat and I sat by her so she wouldn't be scared. I drove her to the animal hospital where she was allowed to board until ready to go to SOS Galgos in Barcelona. Poor thing was very frightened.
That's as it happened. I want to thank you for taking such good care of her. You can't imagine how happy it makes me to see how well loved she is, that she finally has a family of her own and that she no longer has to sleep amongst garbage and trucks.
A big hug and deep gratitude,
Blanca
