Burning Man 2007

by Michael Kane

After last year's Burning Man, I wrote a lonnggggg story, and I feared that it would be boring.  But it was appropriate for me at the time.

This year I'll just post pictures, videos and short descriptions.  It may jump around a lot, but that's these pictures weren't taken in any particular order.

Enjoy!

Marina Belle is one of the cutest and happiest babies I've ever seen.  Here she is dancing on the stage of the A Cavallo art car -- listen to her squeak!

Here's Mike and Ariel on A Cavallo . . .

and Jeremy and Christin . .

The Temple was beautiful this year -- so intricate.

Here's one of my favorite cars from Burning Man -- it's kind of retro-futuristic.  I'd loooove to drive one of these around town.

The monkey zoetrope was one of the best installations this year; everyone loved it:

See all the bikes around it?  Those helped generate electricity for the show.  It's cool looking during the day, but the real magic happens at night.  Here are two videos to show you what I mean:

The Big Rig Jig was also very cool:

I camped in "The Suburbs", a satellite camp of A Cavallo.  We were at 8:45 and Desert -- here are some of the campers . . .

Russell, Jomia, Joshua Suzanne, Josh, Mike and me . .

Mike and Joshua Suzanne . .

And the lovely Ms. Foxxy -- "Good mornting!  How you derrn?"

On Tuesday night, the A Cavallo camp cooked an EXCELLENT dinner, served at the "One Time Café".  Eating well on the playa is such a great experience, and such a nice change from Chef Boyardee and granola bars.  We had salad and steak, chutney and grilled vegetables.  Man, it was good.  Here's Matt giving a toast . .

And here's Marina Belle entertaining the crowd -- how cute is she??

One of my favorite things to do at Burning Man is to go off by myself at night and find solitude in the desert.  It can be very peaceful to see all the lights from a distance, and to sit away from the loud parties.

The next night I went exploring with Daniela, Jehane, Michelle and Marina Belle.  There was a very cool installation called "Crude Awakening" . .

The fire at this one installation was amazing -- notice the one statue's fiery heartbeat . .

I like this photo because it turned out so creepy . .

Marina Belle liked Crude Awakening, even though she was startled and blinked at some of the flames . .

Michelle, Marina Belle, Daniela and Jehane at the Temple . .

A Cavallo was easily one of the best vehicles at Burning Man.  I liked that it wasn't tacked together like some other vehicles; it was built from scratch.  I think the artistic vision came through more accurately because of that.

One day, I saw my first 180-degree rainbow -- and there were two of them . .

That was an amazing scene -- and you could hear people cheering in all directions.  Mike even woke up to check it out:

Here's my sexy pose . . . . wait for it . . . .

BAM!!!

One of the best things about Burning Man is making friends you can see year after year.  From last year, Bill, Tony and Andy:

And my favorite girls in the world, Meredith and Heather:

Thank you, everyone!  Until next year . .

(p.s. you can see video of installations like Dance Dance Immolation and the Thunderdome at the Burning Man Theme)
