THE SHOW
The greyhounds and galgos made their grand entrance under a magnificent canopy of magnolia blossoms.
A closer look at the hieroglyph-carved face of 3,500-year-old Cleopatra's Needle on a less-sunny day:
Champ needed one last sniff of mortal earth before heading on to superstardom.
EMMA & SIENNA (and GARY)
Greyhounds are docile, but that's doesn't mean they're not playful. Take Emma for instance, who proved the durability of her costume by twirling it around her neck several times during the many jumps, twists and turns she took chasing her owner Gary and frolicking with her fellow models around Cleopatra's Needle.
It wasn't easy getting Emma's picture on the "catwalk" with all four paws on the ground. She did manage to get everyone's eyes on her, though, which of course is every model's job.
Emma, front and center as usual:
CARLOS & CINDY
Carlos was my personal favorite, even though he nearly dragged me on my ear when he broke for the steps.
He was a majestic sight in his bejeweled turquoise collar and gold armbands.
Here's the pose:
And the strut:
CHAMP & PHOEBE
Champ found it hard to pay attention with so much beauty around...
But his wandering eye eventually tired out. Sort of.
DOS & ELISITA
The boy king showed us just how patient a greyhound in a hat can be.
Sashay first . . .
. . . then Vogue!
GREYT & CHARLOTTE
Greyt had the special honor of being escorted by his talented costumer, Charlotte Sims. They both looked beautiful, especially against the blooming spring backdrop of Central Park.
I loved his gait as well; he almost looks like a Roman centurion's dog here. If Cleopatra ever walked Marc Antony's greyhound, I guess this is probably what it would have looked like:
