Our George of the Jungle

by Beth Kane

Michael Kane had a mouse in his apartment that was driving him nuts a couple of years ago. The mouse would come out for a snack and to watch TV, so in 2004, I decided to surprise Michael for Christmas with a kitten. "George" was an 8-month-old who had been raised with rescue dogs. His purpose was to be a typical, annoying, small pet to help train the rescue animals to tolerate other household pets. Maybe George overstayed his welcome. Anyway, Bethie discovered him in Petco and we adopted him. Michael was pretty shocked to receive his gift (but glad it was not a goat). George is living in Brooklyn and a real charmer. He is also toilet trained...no litter box. He's pretty special, but I guess all grandmothers feel that way.

"This is a fitting picture for the title :)"

"I think this needs a picture of George on his litter box "alternative." He's really a pretty smart cat. It could also use a picture of George with the "training to flush" equipment."

"I think George is a brilliant alternative to Michael's first plan. He set out humane glue traps to catch invading mice, only to wake up to horriffied barking of his dog, Holly...I'll let him tell the story..."
