I Love Rock N' Roll

by Michael Kane

Tom saw Joan Jett & The Blackhearts play at the Limelight in 1998.  He said she was the rockin'-est EVER.  She stood at the edge of the stage and flicked a bead of sweat off of her chin into the crowd.  And the crowd went NUTS. Tom was really excited because he caught one of her custom-made guitar picks:

She played last night in Brooklyn.  And Tom was right - she rocks.  I had no idea how many good songs she has!  She's got serious sex appeal and a devilish smile.

I had never heard this one before, but it's SO HOT! I think it's my new favorite song:

She also played Crimson and Clover, which is a really pretty song.  Here's a little bit of Cherry Bomb - she does a good lip curl right in the beginning.  Tom said the song is originally by The Runaways, the band she started when she was 15.  Pretty amazing.

She broke a guitar string.  She switched guitars and played out the rest of her song, and started the next one, I Love Rock N' Roll.  Everyone was really excited.  She stopped abruptly and said, "One second . ."  It was fun to feel the excitement in the room - we all knew what she was playing next and we only got a short taste of it.  She switched guitars again . .

The show was pretty great - she definitely rocks.  Go see her if you get a chance, and stand near the front where she throws out her guitar picks.

"GOD I wish I could have been there - long have I loved Joan Jett. Also, when I was a kid, I was obsessed with the notion that she, Valerie Bertinelli, and Victoria Principle were all the same person. As theories go it wasn't the strongest, but then again I am the only child of older parents. I had to amuse myself somehow."

"Good stuff guys. The one thing that sucks about Alaska is our lack of concerts. We will get some decent stuff in Anchorage but it has to be a good band to justify a 14 hr drive. We did get Big Head Todd and the Monsters up here in December good show, would have rather watched them about 10 years ago when I was really into their music but they still played an awesome set. Just a side note, another Runaways band member with Joan Jett was none other than Lita Ford of 80's hair metal fame."

"I adored every stinking minute of seeing Joan Jett with you two. I love her, I love her, I love rock n' roll, I love bags of Diet Coke and skipping down the street. Best night in June."
